About us
Rudy and Vera
Our story started in 1975 where we met in the Chiro and where we provided support for years as adult supervisors, cooking parents and first aid.
We married in 1981 and became proud parents of 4 beautiful daughters. In the meantime we can enjoy 11 grandchildren.
33 years ago we got on an MTB for the first time and found a shared new passion with touring in the Ardennes, Alps, Pyrenees, Sierra Nevada to Moab USA (mecca of mountain biking).
With our large family, a weekend in the Ardennes or a week in Cadaques was never far away. A few years ago we found time again to breathe life into another passion and we joined the Bacchantes, a mixed choir in Liezele.
Vera was mainly a mother who worked from home, organized her own childcare and is still active as a volunteer in many initiatives today. My professional career took place in the IT world and to this day I am still active there as a management consultant.
We had also dreamed of a second home together for a long time and that is now possible with "Casa Cadaques".

The story behind Casa Cadaques
30 years ago we lost our hearts in Cadaques. A coastal village on the Costa Brava, between the Mediterranean Sea and the foothills of the Pyrenees. It became our second home. The 'locals' always welcome us warmly and wave us goodbye with a sincere 'a la proxima'. We travel through the mountains by mountain bike, off road, and are always enchanted by the beautiful raw nature, the friendly residents and thoroughly enjoy the local snacks and drinks.
It seemed obvious that we would buy a holiday home there. But Covid, the energy crisis and global warming gave an unexpected twist. We finally decided to look for something closer.
We knew the Durbuy region and surrounding area quite well, but never thought we would settle here. We sat in front of the PC for hours and reviewed dozens of chalets. Compiled a list of 'to see', made many appointments and often returned home disappointed.
And then, during our search in the long hot summer of 2022, we found this property and suddenly there was the 'inner click' that you cannot explain. It seemed like 'love at first sight', it only takes a second to realize that this was what we were looking for.
We found many of the elements for which we also love Cadaques: the peace, nature, conviviality, the mountains, good food and drinks, summer evenings outside in the lounge, relaxing, beautiful mountain bike routes, adventure ... . With Barvaux and Durbuy nearby, there are also charming towns with nice terraces and good restaurants. In short, there is something for everyone to experience here.
We will definitely go back to Cadaques, but we also want to bring a bit of that Cadaques feeling into our chalet, for ourselves but certainly also for our tenants.
That is why our chalet is called 'Casa Cadaques'.
